Wireless Insulator Voltage Tester | VS-8620
Products Details
VS-8620 Wireless Insulator Voltage Tester is designed for live detection of voltage distribution across insulator strings on overhead transmission lines. By measuring the voltage across each insulator unit, maintenance personnel can quickly identify deteriorated, contaminated, or defective insulators before insulation failure or flashover occurs. Operating as a key field instrument within our comprehensive insulator tester portfolio, it enhances live-line testing efficiency and grid safety.
The tester adopts an advanced wireless communication architecture consisting of a wireless transmitter mounted on an insulated operating rod and a portable handheld receiver. During measurement, the transmitter contacts both metal fittings of an insulator while wirelessly transmitting the measured voltage to the receiver in real time, eliminating cumbersome signal cables and improving operational safety.
The handheld receiver features an intuitive color display capable of presenting real-time measurement values, tower information, insulator string identification, historical records, and comprehensive analysis results. After completing an entire insulator string inspection, the instrument automatically stores measurement data and generates graphical reports, including line charts, bar charts, and detailed voltage distribution analysis.
Integrated analysis software compares measured voltage distribution with standard reference values or adjacent insulator strings, allowing rapid identification of abnormal voltage distribution caused by aging, contamination, moisture ingress, or insulation degradation. This significantly improves inspection efficiency and preventive maintenance planning.
Designed for field operation, the VS-8620 supports USB data storage, automatic report generation, multiple chart display modes, rechargeable batteries, and rugged construction suitable for transmission line inspection under demanding outdoor environments.

How the VS-8620 Works
The VS-8620 operates by attaching the wireless transmitter to an insulated operating rod. During inspection, the transmitter's two probes are placed in contact with both metal fittings of each insulator unit, with the marked probe connected to the high-voltage side.
The measured voltage is transmitted wirelessly to the handheld receiver, where the voltage value is displayed instantly. After each measurement, operators simply press the measurement button to save the result. Once all insulators within the string have been tested, the entire dataset is automatically stored for further analysis and report generation.
The integrated analysis software compares measured voltage values with standard reference tables or neighboring insulator strings to identify deteriorated or faulty insulators requiring maintenance.
